Overview

Part-Time Senior Family Services Worker position with Central Intake & Emergency Services (CIES). CIES is a statewide child protection hotline that operates twenty-four hours a day, every day of the week, including holidays. The unit serves as child abuse reporting system for the State of Vermont and handles after-hour emergencies related to child abuse and neglect, children in state\'s custody, delinquency and youth with behaviors beyond the control of their caretakers.

Duties: Answer the child protection phone line and gather relevant information from callers about alleged child abuse or neglect; document reports of abuse and neglect in the state\'s reporting system; review reports of child abuse and neglect to determine if an allegation meets acceptance criteria in accordance with department policy; review information that family services workers have obtained from callers of the hotline to assess child safety and to determine appropriate agency response; coordinate after-hour emergency responses; provide support and supervision to field family services workers after-hours; coordinate foster care and other placements for children in DCF custody; collaborate with law enforcement, mental health agencies and other service providers to respond to child safety emergencies; provide information and referral to foster parents and community agencies; supervise staff, perform administrative duties.

This is a job-share position at minimum of 20 hours a week with full benefits. The schedule is one to two evening shifts during the week (until midnight) and Saturday evening. The specific shifts will be discussed at interviews. Participation in standby shifts to provide phone supervision to the overnight staff will be required. Applicants must be willing to work some holidays.

Environmental Factors\ Duties are performed largely in an office setting although some field travel will be necessary, for which private means of transportation must be available. Occasional court appearance relative to program client needs/status may be required. Although duties normally occur within a regular weekday schedule, some evening and weekend duty may be necessary to provide necessary service and/or emergency coverage.
