As a subsidiary of L3Harris Technologies and within the Integrated Mission Systems Segment, the WESCAM division develops the most advanced optical and sensor systems for global defense and military sectors, Homeland Security, Search and Rescue and Airborne law enforcement agencies. From long-range covert surveillance missions to search and rescue operations, our MX-series systems, and the mission systems solutions they are a part of, produce stabilized high-magnification electro-optical and infrared images from airborne, marine and ground based platforms, enabling our customers to see first and act first.
About the Role
The Software Engineering department at WESCAM is looking for a dynamic leader for software services including production software builds, sustaining software support, and DevOps.
The individual in this role will work closely with both the software engineering management team and other engineering functions. The ideal candidate for this role has strong leadership experience, good people skills and a passion for development of high quality, mission critical software. They should also be able to adapt to the pressures of delivering software to operations for production deliveries.
Software at WESCAM is the heart of our MX-series systems and the glue that pulls together state of the art mechanical, electrical and optical features of our designs. Each system and mission offers unique challenges so our software has to be flexible while meeting challenging performance requirements that push the boundaries of what is possible with advanced imaging systems. Responsibilities
Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship and career management for engaged, high performing engineering team members performing two related functions:
Software Sustaining
Triage, debug and resolve software issues from system regression testing
Execute customer specific software development projects including platform integration customizations and field upgrades as needed
Continually improve the quality and maintainability of our codebase and software delivery processes
DevOps
Own the production software build & release process
Develop build tools and maintain infrastructure to support continuous integration/ deployment
Maintain, document and promote other tools & services that improve developer productivity and software quality
Help foster a DevOps mentality throughout the entire department
Contribute to good software engineering design practices, processes and standards throughout the department
Participate in daily production software delivery activities including regular software builds and driving resolution of software issues in operations or regression testing
Develop and continually improve working relationships with operations, projects engineering and applied systems engineering in support of organization goals and objectives
Create roadmaps for advancing our DevOps infrastructure and our software delivery capabilities
Drive continuous improvement of software delivery through generating & monitoring performance metrics and sponsoring related improvement initiatives
Provide expert-level technical support to the organization
Work with other leaders & senior technical staff to develop and maintain our software technology roadmap
Contribute to developing robust software development and delivery processes that meet AS9100/ISO9001 quality management system requirements
Recommended Skills and Experiences
Experience leading & engaging with high performing engineering teams
Design, implementation and validation of embedded software, preferably in related fields such as avionics, motor control and/or camera/video systems
Strong background in one or more of the following technical areas:
Embedded software development with C/C+
- Automated software test methodologies tailored to embedded systems
Development of software for complex electronic and FPGA systems.
Familiarity with industry best practices for software development include source control management, Agile practices and Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) methodologies
Passion and experience with making DevOps an integral part of a software development organization
Experience establishing strong relationships with leaders across the organization to get things done.
Experience assessing and hiring the best talent for the team.
Desired Education
University degree or College diploma in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in embedded software development.
