Summary All hourly jobs are considered as open for bid on a continuous basis. Responsibilities As an Instrumentation Craftsman Trainee 5, you will: Troubleshoot or make measurements to determine the technical problem, maintain, repair, adjust and calibrate instrumentation and subassemblies. Some of the physical principles and concepts involved include: electronics (including transistorized or integrated circuits), electrical, mechanical, electrochemical, optical, force, volume, luminescence, displacement and acceleration. Combinations of these and other theoretical instrumentation principles and concepts may be included. Use specialized tools to install, remove and adjust delicate electronic and mechanical components Review the technical manuals and specifications and make test setup for .evaluation studies, measurements or environmental tests to determine accuracy and precision of measurement systems. Documents work with data sheets and diagrams. Assist in the certification of measurement systems, instruments or parts of such systems or instruments. Assist in performing specialized measurements on the transmission system. Assist the instrumentation craftsmen and engineer (metrologist) in setting up test apparatus in accordance with standard procedures used for high accuracy calibration. These tests insure reliable coincidence between measurements made by different internal organizations, BPA customers, other utilities and manufacturers regardless of their geographical separation. These tests also insure that quality standards, OSHA and other regulatory requirements are met throughout the system. Gather and accurately records test procedures, diagrams, test data and final test results along with other pertinent information that may be required for reports. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed at the Ross Complex under laboratory conditions, although the work may involve significant time spent at remote sites or substations. Work may be performed in adverse weather conditions. Tests and work may be performed in the proximity of high transmission line voltages and around other electrical hazards. Some assignments may require that employee work above ground at heights in excess of 50 feet. Some of the work is performed around moving machinery in the auxiliary power equipment. The work may involve driving vehicles over steep and narrow roads and unimproved off-road surfaces. PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Incumbents must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others. The duties involve lifting and carrying instruments weighing up to 50 pounds, frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and working in a sitting position for extended periods of time. Incumbents must have good distance vision and have the ability to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. They must be able to distinguish different electrical/electronic components based on color coding or shade variations. They must have the ability to manipulate fine electromechanical assemblies. Extensive driving over unimproved surfaces may be required. Work may be performed on smooth or uneven surfaces and will be performed under varying climatic conditions. May work at heights in excess of 50 feet. Incumbents must be able to work with both arms overhead. They must be able to hear the conversational voice. Incumbents must be able to work alone under stressful situations. Speech must be suitable for clear communication by telephone. Incumbents must be in good physical condition sufficient to safely perform the duties of the position. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
