What you’ll be doing

The Portfolio Manager, Global GARP (Growth at a Reasonable Price), is an integral member of the Equity Growth Team. You'll contribute to the management of Global and International portfolios through researching and recommending securities, portfolio construction and management support to contribute to positive fund results. While the primary focus of the research will be the Global & International portfolios, as a member of a dynamic and collaborative team, it is expected that the research insight will be shared with the broader Equity team and the CIBC Asset Management (CAM) investment group. You'll contribute to the Marketing and Servicing effort pertaining to both institutional and retail client bases.

How you’ll succeed

  • Research work - Utilize research to construct active, risk aware, portfolios where risks are predominantly taken at the individual stock level. Accountable for investment decisions based on disciplined fundamental research process and risk aware portfolio construction to deliver the desired investment outcome. Contribute to the team’s broader research effort by working with analysts to improve company models and challenge the investment thesis and key drivers. Develop and maintain an accurate research platform with models and forward-looking estimates for the relevant companies.

  • Quantitative analysis - Lead a fundamentally driven investment process that appropriately utilizes quantitative inputs in idea generation and portfolio optimization.

  • Portfolio construction - Recognize the importance of portfolio construction and its role in mitigating risk. Clearly define and adhere to portfolio construction parameters consistent with client objectives and guidelines and ensure portfolios are consistently managed.

  • Provide solutions - Use experience and pattern recognition to positively influence team discussions, by having the team consider multiple perspectives, with the goal of increasing the probability of success for all investment decisions. Generate financial models and thesis statements with a view to capturing the mispriced alpha opportunity.

  • Relationship building - Help develop and mentor research analysts through meeting contributions and one-on-one interactions. Support the performance of all CAM equity funds by engaging in an open and ongoing dialogue with the PM&R (Portfolio Management & Research) equity team members to Initiate discussions and share information.

  • Collaborate - Work collaboratively with the other asset teams. Responsible for all aspects of managing specific global growth equity mandates.

  • Client engagement - Contribute to the marketing and servicing effort pertaining to both the Institutional and Retail client base.

Who you are

  • You have a degree/MBA in Business/Finance/Economics/Applied Sciences. It’s an asset if you have eight or more years of relevant international/global equity research and portfolio management experience or technical industry experience.

  • You can demonstrate experience in technical, analytical, financial and accounting skills. It’s an asset if you have strong understanding of debt markets and corporate credit analysis.

  • You give meaning to data. You are proficient in computer modeling and spreadsheet analysis (Bloomberg API). It’s an asset if you know Computer Programing

  • You know that details matter. You notice things that others don't. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making. You are able to invest using a thoughtful and repeatable process designed to exploit investment opportunities.

  • You are a certified professional. It’s an asset if you are a CFA charter holder or working towards it.
