POSITION TITLE: Associate Scientist, Platform Technology (RNA biology)

*DUTIES: * Develop new cutting-edge RNA editing methods to advance Shape's gene therapy programs. Work with RNA in both biochemical and cell culture-based systems. Design and perform a variety of laboratory experiments that support the discovery and characterization of novel RNA-targeted gene therapy payloads for translational applications. Act as a core member of a scientific team developing an experimental RNA editing therapy for diseases including alpha anti-trypsin deficiency (AATD). Perform and analyze Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) experiments, to enable high throughput screens and to assess global effects of RNA editing. Advance Shape's RNA targeting gene therapy platform through designing novel guide RNA architectures and editing methods. Develop assays to quantify on- and off-target RNA editing and knockdown. Screen and optimize lead constructs for IND enabling studies. Participate and present project results during research meetings and to companywide- and external- partners and collaborators. Maintain detailed electronic laboratory notebook.

*MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  * Master's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, or closely related field or the foreign degree equivalent; and 2 years of experience in molecular biology, synthetic biology, and gene editing techniques, including the following:

• 2 years of experience in molecular DNA cloning techniques
• 2 years of experience in PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR and ddPCR principles and analyses
• 2 years of experience in DNA/RNA isolation for cells
• 2 years of experience in NGS library preparation, running NGS machines, and NGS analysis
• 2 years of experience in flow cytometry

Experience may be gained concurrently. 

SALARY: Salary range of $82,000-$110,000 per year.

The hired applicant's placement within the range is based on qualifications and professional experience. Additional compensation may include annual target bonus and/or sign-on bonus, equity grant and relocation bonus.
