Description/Job Summary

Position Summary

The Custodial Lead provides guidance and direction to Custodians and Floor Technicians and performs custodial services following established procedures and guidelines in the maintenance of buildings, offices, conferences, meal and break areas, restrooms, and other common and associated areas; their furnishings and equipment using manual tools and electrically powered machines.

The Lead may perform standard janitorial duties including dusting, detailing, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, shared areas, and windows when employees are absent or as requested.

The Lead may perform floor care duties for maintaining carpet and hard surface floors within the assigned area using manufacturer-approved methods including waxing, buffing, and stripping floors when employees are absent or as required.

Essential Job Duties:

Specific tasks may vary as needed.

  • Performs direction to Custodians/Cleaners, Sanitizing Techs and Floor Techs by leading or directing custodial activities during scheduled work hours (including weekends and overtime periods), or when the custodial work is split into work crews, or when performing special/detail cleaning project, such as facility deep cleaning/sanitizing, shampooing upholstery/carpets, extracting carpets or other floor coverings, cleaning vents or wall covering, power spraying.

  • Assists with the development of an effective team of custodial personnel by instructing employees in the proper methods and use of cleaning materials and equipment and providing corrective guidance and assistance when necessary to meet established performance standards.

Essential Job Duties (Cont'd):

  • Provides continuity of custodial services during employee absences or under emergency conditions by performing custodial duties to cover area without custodial support or related to the emergency conditions, or as the situation dictates.

  • Assists the supervisors and project manager in ensuring that specified contract cleaning services are completed as contracted by performing sight inspections of areas designated by management and advising supervisor or manager when shortcomings or other deficiencies are noted.

  • Ensures that restrooms are clean and sanitary by following prescribed procedures for sweeping, washing and/or scrubbing the restrooms, using specific chemicals for disinfecting/sanitizing facilities, restocking all appropriate paper products, refilling soap dispensers, replacing sanitary disposal liners, and removing all trash and waste products from restrooms.

  • Makes sure that offices are cleaned by dusting surfaces, removing trash from assigned areas, transporting the trash to designated collection receptacles and outside trash dumpsters; cleans all interior glass, including windows, mirrors, and door glass by using glass cleaners and squeegees and paper wipes according to prescribed guidelines or specific directions for use of the cleaners.

  • May oversee or perform regular, scheduled, and directed floor and stairs maintenance by using manual tools and equipment or operating powered floor machines to sweep, vacuum, and mop floors and stairs, and strip and wax floors according to prescribed guidelines or specific directions.

  • Assists with equipment inventory as directed that may include physically counting various custodial equipment and supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Two years' experience in custodial services, which included knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment, and supplies.

  • Previous experience as a floor care technician or in a related role preferred

  • Proven knowledge of floor care equipment and techniques required.

  • Must be able to follow safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks

  • Requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of up to 50 lbs. or more

  • Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of greater than 50 lbs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Understand and follow employee handbook, policy and procedures and timekeeping and payroll requirements

  • Comply with all safety regulations in accordance with company, equipment, and contract requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Occasionally lift and carry more than 50 lbs.

  • Push and pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Occasionally push and pull over 50 lbs.

  • Stands and moves within assigned work area, or building for 6 to 7 hours (excluding breaks and lunch)

  • Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching as necessary to complete the work

  • Availability to operate a forklift, tugger or golf cart as needed

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday

  • 8:00am - 4:30pm
