Philips Category Engineering Director-Patient Interfaces in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

As a key member of the Sleep and Respiratory Care R&D Leadership team, the Category Engineering Director is responsible for End-to-End delivery of critical programs and projects to develop products, technologies, systems, or solutions within Philips Sleep & Respiratory Care (S&RC) Patient Interface (Masks) business.

Your role:

  • The Category Engineering Director is responsible for efficient planning and effective execution of all innovation programs undertaken by the business (Advanced Development, New Product Development, Maintaining Launched Products). Builds and maintains the program organization, determining the ways of working, and defining key interfaces.

  • Supported by a team of program/project managers, responsible from initial start until introduction in the Market, or internal delivery, by gaining agreements on and achieving project scope and objectives while balancing schedule, cost, quality, and requirements.

  • Responsible for managing a team of program/project managers, building a strong culture in line with Philips behaviors, guiding and ensuring the optimal allocation of personnel to programs and effective program management. Ensures excellent execution by constantly optimizing program management practices in the department to exceed customer expectations.

  • Manages capabilities of the program management group and develops a long-term view on the required competences and knowledge to accomplish the strategy of the business. Works with other S&RC R&D leaders to accomplish goals of the business.

  • Formulates and is accountable for the overall program/project plan, in consultation with management and other parties. Coordinates effective communication/change management strategies for projects/programs as appropriate.

  • Defines: projects, goals, resources (time, budget, and information), quality standards and the risk of the project/program and develops scenarios to mitigate these risks.

  • Ensures proper execution vs the project/program plan.

  • Deploys Process Improvement/Quality Assurance and ensures the project organization is efficient and transparent, in line with departmental and project processes.

  • Provides management and stakeholders with regular project/program performance status, variances to plan and identification of corrective actions, reports on employees’ performance to the hierarchical superior of the employees for the purpose of appraisal and conducts evaluation at the end of the projects.

  • Ensures effective transfer/archiving of the project/program results and the associated intellectual capital.

  • Keeps current with technical basics and new technology, to optimize the goals of each project and maximize the synergy between the projects.

  • This Hybrid , Pittsburgh, PA based role (Bakery Square) may require travel up to 10%.

You're the right fit if:

  • You have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Engineering leadership, focused on Program/Project leadership spanning all aspects of product development/execution in FDA regulated medical device/product environments, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in strategic/functional team leadership.

  • You’re able to influence activities outside of R&D scope e.g. finance, marketing, operation, service, etc.

  • You’ve demonstrated a strong ability to coach/motivate teams and build strong cultures in line with Philips Behaviors.

  • You have expert knowledge of product development for medical consumer propositions.

  • You have strong knowledge and experience with Design for 6 sigma (DFSS), Black/Green Belt, Lean, Agile development and PDLM.

  • Ability to manage Internal/External stakeholders and build/ lead global teams comprised of Project/Program managers and Portfolio Planning Associates.

  • Functional competencies in Project Integration Management: Project Scope, Time and Cost Management, Project Quality Management Project communications, Project Risk Management, Project Procurement / Supplier Management

  • You have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Required) in Engineering and/or a business discipline. Master’s Degree and PMP certification highly preferred..

  • For this Hybrid position (3 days a week on site), you must reside within commuting distance to Pittsburgh, PA (Bakery Square) or you must be willing/able to relocate to the Pittsburgh, PA area.
