Description

The Continuous Improvement Engineer is a key contributor to our formalized continuous improvement initiatives for the Northwood, IA Plant. The position assists in delivering improvements to business initiatives by providing lean guidance, training, and reporting. This position works closely with all internal departments throughout the plant to help influence and support a Lean culture.

Highlights of the role:

The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for understanding objectives and developing a plan to meet them. This position is responsible for executing the following:

  • Implement improvement projects using Kaizen, Six Sigma, TPM, SMED, 5S, Standard Work, and other Continuous Improvement applications.

  • Ability to lead Kaizen efforts using the following tools: time studies, project charters, value stream mapping, Gemba/MDI Boards, standard work balancing, single piece flow, kitting, and other waste eliminate methods.

  • Collect, utilize, and develop production metrics to identify and influence Lean opportunities.

  • Plan, coordinate, and organize with other resources to drive process improvements within the plant.

  • Coach and mentor associates in Lean Methodologies and Processes.

  • Develop ROI justification for Improvement and Capital Projects.

  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager and take direction on critical opportunities.

  • Work well with all levels of the organization, both in the office and the production team.

  • Ability to present ideas and plans to all levels within the organization.

Requirements

  • Industrial or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.

  • Equivalent education and experience as a CI Engineer would be considered.

  • 1-3 Years of experience implementing and leading Continuous Improvement projects, Kaizen Events, 5S, TPM efforts, and SMED projects.

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills to help train and to educate employees in lean principles and tools.

  • Proven organizational skills, strong project management, and demonstrated ability to work in both team and individual environments.

  • Possess strong critical thinking skills with the ability to create tools for data collection.

  • MS Forms, Power BI and/or MS Excel

  • Extensive knowledge in Lean tools such as Standard Work, Kaizen, 5S, PDCA, SMED, TPM, Standard WIP and other statistical tools as needed.

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification is preferred.

  • Occasionally to frequently bend or stoop, kneel or crouch, push or pull, climb, reach above shoulder and handle or grip, rotate head, and operate foot pedals.

The work environment is indoors in an industrial manufacturing facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to the risk of electrical shock and work near moving mechanical parts. Due to the nature of the production environment eye and hearing protection must be worn.
