POSITION OVERVIEW

As the Emergency Management Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of BDC. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Emergency Management Specialist to join our Corporate Security Team. The primary focus of this role is to establish a standardized and efficient emergency management framework, enhancing the organization's preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities. The Specialist will play a crucial role in reducing risks, vulnerabilities, and emerging threats while providing ongoing training and awareness to employees at all levels.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Develop and implement BDC-wide emergency response plans and protocols. Create detailed, scenario-specific response plans outlining step-by-step procedures for various emergencies.

  • Establish a dedicated emergency response team with clear leadership roles. Ensure this team is well-trained and equipped to manage incidents promptly and efficiently, coordinating efforts across departments to minimize the impact on BDC operations.

  • Manage incidents with the BDC emergency response team, coordinate with local emergency services, including police, fire, and medical services.

  • Foster strong relationships with local emergency services to facilitate seamless collaboration during crises. Share information, resources, and coordinate response efforts to ensure a unified and effective approach to emergencies.

  • Develop recovery strategies to minimize downtime and restore normal operations quickly.

  • Assess potential threats and vulnerabilities, considering both internal and external factors.

  • Implement proactive measures, such as physical security improvements and environmental risk mitigation, to reduce vulnerability to emerging threats.

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency management framework. Metrics may include response times, successful implementation of protocols, and employee compliance with established procedures.

  • Identify and train individuals within BDC to serve as designated emergency response managers and ensure these leaders have a deep understanding of the emergency management framework and be capable of making decisions under pressure.

  • Schedule and execute simulated emergency drills to test the readiness of employees and the effectiveness of emergency response plans. Evaluate the drills to identify areas for improvement and refine protocols accordingly.

  • Conduct continuous training sessions and awareness programs to educate employees on different emergency situations, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.

  • Ensure emergency plans are easily accessible and understood by all employees, and regularly update them to reflect changes in the business environment.

  • Continuously monitor the business environment for potential risks and vulnerabilities, conducting regular risk assessments.

  • Stay informed about emerging threats and adjust preparedness measures accordingly to maintain a proactive approach to emergency management.

  • After any emergency incident, conduct thorough post-incident reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of the response and identify areas for improvement.

  • Strong organizational capabilities to coordinate resources, manage logistics and ensure effective emergency response operations.

  • A proactive mindset in identifying potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate them.

  • Flexibility, ability to make quick decisions and commitment to ensuring employee safety.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • At least 10 -15 years of experience in an emergency management role, carrying out risk assessments and/or incident management.

  • Must be available 24/7 to effectively manage and coordinate emergency situations.

  • A college diploma is preferred, or equivalent, relevant experience or certification in emergency management training or certification.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products

  • Bilingual (English & French) with excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively manage a variety of relationships and interpersonal situations.

This role requires having flexible hours depending on operational needs (ex; special events), you may be called after normal business hours and will be required to assist with incident management during nights and weekends. Some domestic travel may be required.
