DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: PPG's R&D Library Shared Services team is looking for a qualified and experienced candidate for the position of Information Specialist. R&D Library Shared Services includes experienced patent and technical information professionals who assist R&D researchers, and the Legal/ Intellectual Property team, in the support and protection of PPG's intellectual property. You will report to the Manager of Library Services R&D.

As a member of the Library Shared Services Team, you will provide quality information services to PPG scientists, engineers, and associates to help support the mission of the team: * To support PPG Science & Technology globally by providing quality information services in a responsive & cost-effective manner * To continue to serve as an innovative & active partner in the research mission of PPG, by facilitating search & discovery & enable communities to manage and act on content. * To explore & implement new & innovative methods to encourage information sharing, improve productivity, foster deeper collaboration & better manage information.

Key Responsibilities * Identifies, understands, interprets and comprehensively responds to internal clients information requests for chemical, technical, and patent information, leveraging business or technical knowledge, to formulate, develop and/or modify complex search strategies, using appropriate search construction techniques to execute both patent and literature searches, and competitor research, reference and landscapes using a variety of subscribed electronic databases and online resources, both current and historic, in support of research, planning, business development and legal/intellectual property protection. * Prepares coherent analyses and summarizes results using patent landscape strategies, and other analysis tools. * Catalogs metadata and processes internal research reports for knowledge sharing within a secured document sharepoint repository to encourage information sharing and searchability of internally produced report content. * Assists with internal records management and documentation of archived information, hard copy or electronic, at company facilities, or third-party storage centers. * Works with library staff, both in person, and remotely, using in-house resources and being involved in daily library activities which may include providing general reference assistance from internal and external sources, creation/updating of library guides and training for instruction and outreach; understands current awareness needs of researchers, and creates and disseminates alerts to researchers, and provides general library support to the mission. Stewards special projects as needed.

Qualifications * Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) and/or Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited university, or a BS in Chemistry, with at least 1 year information research or patent searching, or equivalent experience. * Knowledge of scientific and technical literature, reference tools, on-line databases and search techniques. Proven competence to critically evaluate search results. Ability to assess, select, and apply current and emerging information and data mining tools. * Must demonstrate awareness of knowledge management, information governance & organization, metadata/tagging, and document security principles. * Experience working in a research library, or information center. * 1 or more years of scientific search experience (includes running searches on behalf of others based on understanding of a requester's information needs and deliverables). * Experience in electronic database searching, including patent and technical information sources (such as SciFinder, Reaxys, Scopus, Patbase, etc.) Experience searching STN databases is preferred. * Experience working with R&D, patent and/or legal professionals. Knowledge of the intellectual property process and earch types is preferred. * US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.This job posting may have multiple locations listed.
