Position Summary The Child Passenger Safety Coordinator (CPSC) is responsible for supporting the Child Passenger Safety (CPS) program at Children's Minnesota. Responsible for provision of education on CPS including proper securing of a child in a child restraint and installation of a child restraint in a vehicle. Responsibilities may include coordination of CPS events on campus as well as in the community. Serves as a practicing role model, consultant and liaison in CPS for patients/families, staff and community. Supports the development and implementation of system-wide policies, practices, and resources for families and staff establishing CPS best practices in collaboration with department managers, clinical educators, and other leaders. License/Certification/Registration required? Yes * Child Passenger Safety Technician certification required. Instructor certification preferred. Must be willing to obtain instructor certification within 1 year of hire if not already certified. * Completion of "Safe Travel for All Children: Transporting Children with Special Health Care Needs" training preferred; must be willing to complete this course within 1 year of hire if not already completed. Education: * Associates degree in health education, community health, or related field required. Experience may be substituted for formal education. * Bachelor's degree in health education, community health, or related field preferred. Experience: * Minimum 3 years of experience as CPST or equivalent and/or special needs transportation related experience required. * Program development experience required. * Experience in inpatient and ambulatory care settings preferred. * Experience in developing policies/protocols, designing education materials, and leading education initiatives required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and delegate work. * Demonstrated problem-solving ability which employs anticipation, creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment to make recommendations for change/plan based on data and knowledge available. Ability to challenge respectfully and negotiate successfully for optimal patient outcomes. * Ability to work independently in a constantly changing environment. * Demonstrated ability to interact with families from diverse backgrounds and to adapt educational materials and teaching styles to meet families' unique needs and cultural considerations. * Possess effective communication skills and excellent teaching skills for working with families and other healthcare team members. * Ability to function as part of a team and form positive, collaborative relationships with providers, hospital staff, patients, families, and post-acute providers. * Strong computer literacy skills. * Knowledge and understanding of current state laws regarding child occupancy protection as well as best practice recommendations from nationally recognized chi d safety organizations. * Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor colleagues in other disciplines. * Requires the ability to transport self independently throughout the medical facility and to off-site locations. The posted pay range represents rates for a grouping of multiple jobs within a salary grade. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Children's Minnesota.
