Job ID361015 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyStudent Services Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9363AC Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job The Director of the Circle of Indigenous Nations(COIN) reports to the Associate Vice President for Institution Engagement and Education Justice of the Office for Equity and Diversity (OED) and works closely with the Office of Equity and Diversity Vice President. The Director oversees the development of strategic partnerships that support campus-wide support initiatives for American Indian, Native American, and Indigenous students who hold intersectional identities along race, ability, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and socioeconomic status. COIN's director leads the visioning, strategic planning, and programmatic agenda for the unit, and partners with institutional colleagues on strategic enrollment management. This position is a 100 percent time, 12-month, annually renewable professional and administrative position on the University's Twin Cities campus. This posting will stay open until filled Duties and Responsibilities: Provide vision, direction, and support for COIN * Establish short and long-term strategic plans for COIN, in consultation with OED senior leaders, in the areas of campus representation, inclusion, and American Indian (AI)/Native American (NA)/Indigenous student academic success and advocacy. * Develop a detailed budget to support COIN strategic initiatives in consultation with finance and budget colleagues. * Create, sustain, and continuously cultivate institutional, system, and community relationships and collaborations (i.e., with admissions, academic, counseling, and career services units) with the goal of enhancing AI/NA/Indigenous student support initiatives. * Serve as the primary staff coordinator for the Twin Cities American Indian Advisory Board. * Develop and implement programs and initiatives that provide AI/NA/Indigenous students with skills to navigate a Predominantly White Institution with the goals of increasing retention and graduation rates. * Implement holistic support frameworks aimed to ensure AI/NA/Indigenous students/learners achieve their intellectual, academic, and well-being goals. * Partner with OED and Foundation colleagues in the cultivation of philanthropic efforts to support COIN, as well as administering funds that support students' scholarships. * Prepare briefs, reports, and talking points for senior leaders highlighting COIN's efforts in support of our AI/NA/Indigenous students. * Design and implement a robust evaluation and assessment plan for COIN programming and initiatives. * Lead the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of professional staff; provide supervision, mentoring, coaching, and evaluation of staff members; lead team-building efforts. * Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and implementation of COIN's Elders in Residence Program, language tutors, office interns, and American Indian Cultural House Living Learning Community intern. * Represent COIN and serve as internal and external ambassador to AI/NA/Indigenous students' interests; attend events and programs on campus, particularly those being held by multicultural/AI/NA/Indigenous student organizations. * Provide on-going support, feedback, and direction for existing and developing programs and initiatives in COIN. * Establish and share best practices to support AI/NA/Indigenous students in the classroom. * Develop and implement a strategic marketing and outreach plan focused on campus-wide marketing of COIN services, mission, and resources. * Serve on appropriate University committees and as a member of the Leadership Team in the Office for Equity and Diversity. * Engage in work consistent with the mission of the Office for Equity and Diversity to create and sustain a campus environment that values and actively supports a pluralistic community. * Serve as an effective spokesperson and ambassador for COIN to AI/NA/Indigenous ext rnal (i.e., Big Ten Native Alliance and American Indian Graduation Committee) and internal constituents (i.e., student, staff, and faculty affinity groups/spaces). Qualifications Required * Master's degree with at least 5 years of experience working with students who come from marginalized communities, and/or who have had limited access to higher education. * Must possess knowledge of and expertise working with American Indian students, tribes, tribal colleges, and/or tribal school systems. * Demonstrated understanding of American Indian students in a college or University setting (addressing academic, financial, personal, social, and cultural needs) along with the knowledge of reservation and tribal communities, offices, and agencies. * Must be committed to creating strong and supportive academic support strategies for underrepresented, first generation, and marginalized students. * Demonstrated experience developing initiatives aimed to support diverse students and groups, not limited to: o American Indians/Native Americans and Indigenous people; people of color, including underrepresented groups and new immigrant populations; people with both visible and invisible disabilities; people across faiths, religions, spiritualities, and those who are agnostic and atheists; women; people of various gender and sexual identities and expressions; first generation students and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. * Demonstrated understanding of theories and ways of knowing related to equity, diversity, and inclusion; student development; community engagement. * Ability to relate effectively to students and work cooperatively with faculty and staff. * Demonstrated ability to: o encourage creativity and innovation o administer higher education programs o working and collaborating with faculty, administrators, members of communities o evaluate and assess AI/NA student success programs and initiatives * Experience supervising and mentoring staff. * Excellent communication, writing skills to diverse audiences. * Experience developing and administering budgets. * Computer competency with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and electronic calendaring programs. * Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Preferred: * Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree in Higher Education or related field. * Five years of full-time experience working in a college or university academic setting. * Teaching, presenting, and/or facilitating in a higher education environment.
