About GeneCapture:

GeneCapture is an associate company of the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Huntsville, AL. We are developing a novel platform technology for rapid, portable, and affordable infection diagnostics at the point of care. The system identifies highly specific pathogenic DNA/RNA signatures using an inexpensive disposable plastic cartridge, giving results in about an hour. This rapid genetic matching technique has applications in routine healthcare, environmental testing, food safety, and bio-warfare identification. GeneCapture is looking to expand our workforce as we prepare the final to-market version of our technology. We are a driven, flexible team with our eyes on the exciting potential of our breakthrough technology.


Associate Scientist II

GeneCapture is seeking an entry-level scientist to assist in the development and testing of assays for rapid pathogen detection and antibiotic susceptibility determination. Working prototypes exist for experimental design and validation.The successful candidate will be trained on our systems and will work with a diverse team of scientists and engineers to develop and carry out pre-production testing usingBiological Safety Level 2 (BSL2)pathogens.

Qualified applicants will be able to multitask in a high-activity environment and communicate clearly and effectively. They should also have experience participating in a collaborative RandD effort and should enjoy the challenges and benefits of working within a small company. Candidates with more experience may be considered for a higher-level position.

Responsibilities

  • Technical collaboration on testing and product development.
  • Independently execute prototype assays.
  • Assist in planning pre-clinical experiments.
  • Perform basic instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Organize data collection, analyses, and the creation of the associated documentation and reports.
  • Support the lab staff to ensure timely project completion.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong biology background.
  • Proven expertise in lab-based experimentation with solid molecular biology lab skills.
  • Ability to perform careful and consistent work.
  • Experience with RNA amplification techniques and/or microbiology is desired, but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands

Environmental Factors

  • Moderate to high noise level (e.g., lab space with multiple equipment, computers, and printer).
  • Workspace is generally an indoor lab setting and other common spaces throughout HudsonAlpha with controlled temperature conditions.

Mental Functions

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.
