ICF Climate LOB hybrid locations include:

Arlington, VA (Crystal City), New York City, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Honolulu.

ICF is at the forefront of preparing cutting-edge analyses, identifying viable market solutions, building real-world management tools, and implementing programs to account for and manage carbon emissions, and decarbonize our economy. Our team works with all levels of government, multilateral institutions, and commercial clients to develop greenhouse gas emission inventories and carbon footprints; conduct greenhouse gas mitigation policy analyses; implement solutions-based climate programs; develop climate action plans and sustainability strategies; and support organizational sustainability.

We are seeking a mid-level consultant to contribute to ICF’s growing practice of work in Forest, Land, and Agriculture based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and sequestration measurement and reporting, related environmental modelling and data analysis, international capacity building and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong technical background and expertise, such that they can both manage and provide technical leadership on project tasks.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting projects related to Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) GHG accounting, decarbonization efforts, resilience planning; offset development; climate-smart agriculture and land management; and international capacity building for AFOLU inventory development. Projects will range from technical, data-driven analyses to writing reports for general audiences to supporting external workshops and communication activities. You will be an essential member of 2- to 10-person project teams that will depend on you to help create accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services. You are likely to work on multiple projects, interact with all levels of staff, and interact directly with clients. What you'll do...

  • Task Leadership and Execution: Drive successful execution of project tasks, understand clients’ current and emerging needs and deliver innovative and efficient services. Serve as task lead, or strategic advisor for a portfolio of projects. Execute work plans, support project teams and conduct comprehensive quality control on all work products. The mix of projects and clients will depend on success and is expected to evolve over time. In total, approximately 90% of time will be devoted to project work at the onset.

  • People Management and Development: Be part of a quickly growing Forest, Land and Agriculture team with opportunities both to learn new technical and project management skills from senior colleagues, and to serve as a mentor to junior colleagues while supporting knowledge transfer to grow their capacity and technical skills.

  • Business Development: Responsible for supporting proposal submission as ICF builds a growing portfolio of work, particularly in sub national, national and international GHG accounting and mitigation, proposing creative solutions for select opportunities, working closely with senior leadership for proposal support. Collaborate closely with other ICF groups.

  • Technical Analyses: Calculate AFOLU GHG inventories and craft accompanying decarbonization plans, create tools to quantify ecosystem carbon/sequestration, quantify the climate impacts of land management and agricultural practices, and generally apply AFOLU subject matter expertise to a wide range of projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or other Earth Sciences, International Development, Forestry, Land Use Management, Agricultural Sciences, Geospatial Analysis, Engineering, Biology, Public Policy, or other related technical studies plus 2+ years of professional experience OR Master's Degree in Environmental or other Earth Sciences, International Development, Forestry, Land Use Management, Agricultural Sciences, Geospatial Analysis, Engineering, Biology, Public Policy, or other related technical studies plus 1 year of professional experience with:

  • Contributing to multiple workstreams and work within cross-functional teams, navigating variable staff resources, schedules, and project budgets.

  • GHG/carbon accounting, tools and climate change mitigation, preferably related to agriculture and land use emissions and removals.

  • GHG accounting and reporting standards and protocols including the IPCC Guidance for National GHG Inventories, UNFCCC Reporting Frameworks, GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Guidance and the Science Based Targets Initiative Forest, Land and Agriculture Guidance, among others.

  • Land use, ecosystem carbon accounting, forestry, and/or agriculture.

  • Working in multi-disciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of professionalexperience (listed in minimum qualifications) post degree.

  • Experience in a consulting environment.

  • Experience with general and specific quantification and statistical analysis tools, such as Microsoft Excel, R/-Studio, Stata, Agriculture and Land Use (ALU) software, the COMET suite of tools, among others.

  • Experience with geospatial analysis, data, software and tools, such as Arc-GIS, QGIS, Collect Earth Online and Google Earth Engine, among others.

  • Proposal or grant writing experience

  • Strong data and quantitative skills, experience with data visualization or GHG accounting tool development

  • Professional proficiency in a non-English language

  • Project management experience and certifications (e.g., PMP)

  • Understanding of international capability building and stakeholder engagement

  • Experience conducting or facilitating training and organizing technical workshops.

  • Understanding of climate and agriculture policies and programs

  • Familiarity with climate-smart agriculture, forestry, and/or land use (including wetlands and mangroves) practices and technologies.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex climate information to non-scientists to inform decision making processes.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner and establish strong working relationships all levels of internal staff and outside clients and stakeholders.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

$63,511.00 - $107,968.00
