Junior Civil Engineer/Draftsman The City of Chicopee\'s Department of Public Works / Water Division is hiring a Junior Civil Engineer / Draftsman. The position assists in the computerized drafting and mapping of all records, plans, and design of the water distribution system, including all extensions, and replacements. Makes reports and performs other duties as directed and prescribed by the Superintendent of Public Works, Water Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent/Engineer. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the operation of the CADD system to facilitate computerized mapping and other computer software used by the Department to design and make records of the City\'s water distribution system. Qualifications To be minimally qualified, one must meet the following criteria: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), an Associate\'s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology is preferred, with a minimum of one (1) year related experience and/or training in design and construction of water systems which include construction, survey, design and drafting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications. Working knowledge of personal computers and a variety of software programs, word processing, spreadsheets, AutoCAD, and other related engineering hardware and software. Knowledge of in-scope, metal detectors, measuring tape, survey equipment, leak detection equipment, and various drafting equipment and techniques. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements. Licenses (If Applicable) Valid Driver\'s License, Required to obtain Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator License & Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator License within (1) year of hire date. Essential Duties Include Is responsible for incorporating all water system upgrades into the CADD system and associated drafting programs. Produce \"blueprints\" using the CADD system to generate documents for the upgrade and rehabilitation of the water distribution system. These \"blueprints\" show locations of hydrants, valves, fittings, mains, etc. Updates the water distribution system in WaterGEMS to monitor effects to the water distribution system due to changes or additions to the system. Investigates complaints from the public. Marks the locations of mains and services to prevent damage. Observes installation of new water distribution piping, water services, and repairs to the existing water distribution system done by the Water Department crews and independent contractors. Must be available for emergency work in the event of a water main failure. Other duties as assigned per the full job description. Salary/Compensation Employment Status: Non-Exempt; Full-Time Salary: UCFW Administrative Union, Grade A09, Step 1, Starting pay - \$25.30 per hour Expected Hours of Work This is a Full Time, 40-hour/week position, with a schedule of 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
